MUM by DegsyJonesPhoto

Well my lovely old Mum made her 90th birthday, 90 years old ! born 18th of June 1924, what a great age. just think of all the things she has lived through and seen. The early years of powered flight, to man landing on the moon, fort in a world war, lived through the 60's and the liberation of women. Gave birth to 5 kids brought us all up through hard times and good, became a grandmother and a wise one was she ! So many things, so loving so funny, such a funny lady had us laughing right to the end. She wasn't happy these last few months she said "old age is shit" ! her body was giving her pain and she wanted to go see my dad again, but she was strong and she was determined to she her 90th but within a week she had decided she had had enough and died at home with her family around her on the 25th of June 2014. She had a great send off standing room only on the chapel and a good piss up after. I know where I get my love of photography from my mum ! she has left me 4 crates of photos from as far back as 1899 of my great great great grandmother on her 100th birthday outside Preston market with her 12 sons and their families, it's clearly in the genes this old age thing ! I've only just started to go through the photos but there are lots over a 100 years old but there are also lots of mum when she was a little girl playing in the tenements called the Dock Cottages where she lived in Birkenhead. her older brother bought her a box brownie and she took it everywhere, even in her last few days with us when she wasn't quite clear where she was she asked for her camera and held it tight in her bed and it was with her when she passed. So good night Lelia May....Betty you were the best mum a true inspiration I will love you always xx

Thank you for sharing your personal feelings, memories and photos. She seems, even to a stranger, like a grand woman.
